Helping Teachers

Most people have been lucky enough to have had many great teachers. Many remember their teachers well into their adult years and some credit their teachers for their success in their higher education and careers.

American Kennel Club values teachers and the contribution they make to the lives of children all over the country.

Three teachers will win a $100 Amazon gift card! To participate, teachers must utilize a lesson plan from the AKC’s Educator Resources page found here and email a photo (or photos) of themselves teaching students engaged in the lesson plan to publiced@akc.org.

Participants must enter by November 9, 2018. To find out more about this contest, click here.

If you know a teacher that could use a $100 Amazon gift card in their classroom, please share this with them. AKC Public Education will continue to work hard to engage, facilitate, and convey to the general public the ongoing importance of the relationships between people and canines through education and outreach. We appreciate all of the teachers that partner with us!

Art Contest at AKC 2018 Responsible Dog Ownership Day

AKC Public Education is pleased to host the 2018 AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Art Contest at the 16th annual AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day in Raleigh, North Carolina on September 8th.

Many wonderful entries from talented artists in grades kindergarten through twelve were received. The public has been invited to view the art displayed at the AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds, Holshouser Building located at 1025 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raleigh, North Carolina.

Through this contest, children have the opportunity to celebrate their love of dogs. Many children chose to depict their own personal dog or one that has crossed the Rainbow Bridge, allowing them to share their special bond and their talent with a large audience.

Hosting an art contest at your event is an excellent way to engage the community and add an exciting new attraction to your event. You can find resources for hosting your own art contest here: https://www.akc.org/public-education/art-contest/.

As always, please reach out to us with any questions at publiced@akc.org.

About AKC Public Education

“Everything I know I learned from dogs.” – Nora Roberts

Public Education has existed on and off at American Kennel Club for many years. The Education department, formed in April 2017, consists of the AKC Canine College, Public Education (which moved under Education in June 2017) and Events Education.

The mission of the Public Education Department is to engage, facilitate, and convey to the general public the ongoing importance of the relationships between people and canines through education and outreach.

The vision of the Public Education Department is to advance the sport and the future of purebred dogs by enriching the experiences of our members, building our community, and promoting responsible dog ownership.

We accomplish our goals by creating programs that can be utilized by clubs, as well as the general public. Some of those programs include the AKC Patch Program, Canine Ambassadors, Educator Resources, AKC Canine Clubs and AKC Character Education.

We are consistently striving to improve our current initiatives and create new initiatives to further the sport and the future of purebred dogs.

We always welcome feedback. You may contact us any time at publiced@akc.org.
