About AKC Public Education

“Everything I know I learned from dogs.” – Nora Roberts

Public Education has existed on and off at American Kennel Club for many years. The Education department, formed in April 2017, consists of the AKC Canine College, Public Education (which moved under Education in June 2017) and Events Education.

The mission of the Public Education Department is to engage, facilitate, and convey to the general public the ongoing importance of the relationships between people and canines through education and outreach.

The vision of the Public Education Department is to advance the sport and the future of purebred dogs by enriching the experiences of our members, building our community, and promoting responsible dog ownership.

We accomplish our goals by creating programs that can be utilized by clubs, as well as the general public. Some of those programs include the AKC Patch Program, Canine Ambassadors, Educator Resources, AKC Canine Clubs and AKC Character Education.

We are consistently striving to improve our current initiatives and create new initiatives to further the sport and the future of purebred dogs.

We always welcome feedback. You may contact us any time at publiced@akc.org.
